Bedroom Decorate

One Room Challenge | Master Bedroom Relaxing Retreat Week 3

It is the end of week 3 of the Spring 2019 One Room Challenge. The room is starting to feel more relaxing, but is still far from finished. Today I am sharing a project update with details on how the room is coming together.

For those of you that are new to The Organized Wife, I am renovating my master bedroom during a six week challenge called The One Room Challenge. During this time, I am challenging myself to renovating my master bedroom while sharing the project progress each week.

This is my third time participating in the challenge. You can catch up on the other two rooms I completed here: Guest Room and Half Bath.

WEEK 3 PROJECT UPDATE

This week our bedroom furniture was delivered. That included a dresser, two night stands, and an ottoman for the end of the bed. Because we finally had our new, smaller furniture, we were able to move things around in the room.

Here is a shot of our room from a couple of weeks ago. The room was dark because the bed was blocking the only window. Our accent furniture was a dark black/brown shade, further darkening the space. (It doesn’t help that we had just come back from a trip and stuff was everywhere.)

Here is what our bedroom configuration is now. It is brighter, lighter, and more restful. It has only been a couple of days since we moved the furniture around, but I am so in love with how the room is coming together.

I still need to add artwork to the wall the bed is on. Additionally, we need to add throw pillows and put a duvet cover on the comforter. I am even thinking of adding a throw blanket with some color to the end of the bed.

I am in love with the ottoman at the end of the bed. The wood finish is light and adds a lot of character to the space.

We picked up these marble trays from West Elm this weekend. They are a pretty addition to the nightstands. Also, they are prefect for catching the condensation from our drinks.

PURCHASES

This weekend we picked up a new linen duvet cover from West Elm. It is so soft. I am looking forward to putting it on the bed after I wash it.

Also purchased this weekend were the curtains. I got them from Target. However, these are not offered in stores so I have to wait for them to be delivered. I can’t wait for these to arrive. They are going to look so nice in our room.

DESIGN CHANGES

The first design change we made was the addition of an ottoman. I love the ottoman we picked out from Wayfair.com during their big spring sale. We got it for a bargain price and it is a lovely addition to the room.

The second design change we have made are the lamps. I was originally intending to either purchase these lamps from Overstock.com or purchase something awesome from Home Goods. I made the mistake of bringing the lamps from my dining room upstairs to use in the interim. I am so in love with the lamps from downstairs that I think we are going to keep them in our bedroom. New lamps will go in the dining room.

The third design change that is going to be made is the art work in the room. I originally planned to purchase this piece from Minted.com. The husband has since mentioned that he does not like it and would like me to come up with something else instead. Back to the drawing board with only 3 weeks to go.

THE DESIGN PLAN AND PROJECT OUTLINE

BED | CURTAINS | DRESSER | NIGHTSTANDS | PILLOW A | PILLOW B | LAMPS | DRAPERY ROD | SIGN | PAINTING | BLANKET

There are three more weeks until the the final reveal. The following part of the project have been completed:

Week 1 – Schedule the cable company to come out and install a new cable line. Order the dresser and night stands as they are on sale.

Week 2 – Make room for the night stands in other parts of the house. Update the furniture configuration.

The remaining project plan by week is as follows:

This week – Touch up the paint on the window frame, hang the new drapery rod, hang the new curtains. Order sign for over the bed.

Week 4 – Pick up new bedding, lamps, and install a new ceiling fan.

Week 5 – Paint art for the walls, pick up frames for photos.

Week 6 –  Add remaining decorative elements and make the bed.
