I love my home office. It is in our sun room, therefore it is in the sunniest room of our home. There was a time when I worked from home. It was great to look out the large windows that overlook my backyard when I needed a small mental break.
My office is a long, narrow space that includes our back door and a door that provides access to a large storage closet. The room is narrow, so it is difficult to position furniture in the space. I have had difficulty deciding what to do with the blank space to the left of my desk.
Here is a shot of my office from earlier this year. My desk was aligned so I could see out the window. Now my desk looks into our living room. You can see that there is an empty space on the other side of the room.
I have an over sized slip covered chair that I have owned for the better part of 12 years. I love it. It is great for snuggling up with a good book. The only issue is that I had no where for it go in our house. We had it in the living room for the better part of last year. Then I bought the two matching side chairs that are now across from the sofa. I really wanted to move it upstairs to one of the bedrooms. The chair is a bit on the large side. The space just wasn’t available.
The over sized chair was sitting behind the sofa for the longest time. This weekend I brought it to its new home: my office.
This is what you see as soon as you walk in. It is a chair that fits well in the space. It is going to be perfect for enjoying a good book. For my husband, he will sit there when he wants to chat with me while I am working on the blog. The dogs will probably use it as a good place for a nap in the sun.
This is the view to the left of my desk. It is so nice to have something fill that blank space that keeps with the current vibe of the room: comfortable and soothing.
I brought in from the patio my Lilly Pulitzer garden bench. I bought it at Target a couple of years ago for about $100. (It was the only Lilly Pulitzer item I was able to snag!) I had it outside on the patio since I bought it. However, I needed a table to put my coffee on and a place to put my book between readings. This was a great use of something I already had. I will eventually purchase another table so I can take the garden bench back outside. This will do very nicely until then.
The wall art is a canvas that I bought from Michael’s craft store for about $15 and fans I bought from Home Goods for about $10. I painted the canvas the same color as our wall so the fans would look like they were floating. I hot glued the paper fans onto the canvas.
The colors of the fans goes well with the color scheme of the room. In addition, it was a cheap, but incredibly cute piece of art for the office.
Here is one final view of my new reading nook. If you are ever looking for me, look here first.
