Advent Calendar Reveal | Day 24

Today is day one of my advent calendar.  Or day 24, depending on how your look at it.

For those of you new to the blog, I sewed an advent calendar (you can read the entire post here).  There are 24 little bags, like the one in the image below, hanging on my tree.  Every day for the next 23 days, I will open the bag to reveal the treat that is inside.  Hint: it is going to be alcohol.

MY INSPIRATION

Last December my husband shared with me that one of our favorite comedians, Patton Oswalt, had a whisky advent calendar.  He was sharing his drinks on Instagram every day.  Intrigued, we set off to create one for this year.

We headed to the liquor store just before Thanksgiving to buy wine for making our gravy.  While we were there, I visited the racks of mini liquor bottles at the front of the store.  There were so many to choose from!  They must have had 200 different miniature bottles, ranging from vodka, whisky, gin, and even pre-mixed shots.  The husband helped me pick out a few that we know I will like…and even a few that I might not.  I am going to give them a taste anyway!

The liquor today is Kingston black cherry spiced rum.

THE DRINK

Today’s drink is a classic rum and coke. I mixed one part rum to two parts coke.

The black cherry flavor made the drink taste like a cherry coke.  If you enjoy rum, I recommend giving this one a try.
