Decorate Home Office

my home office design plan

Last November our contractor started working on our sun room to help me turn it into a fabulous home office.  The sun room is a long, narrow space. It was dark, despite the number of windows, due to dark brown paint on the walls.

Before the Changes Started

Before the contractor started working his magic, the room looked like this:

sunroom-1

And like this, from another angle:

sunroom-2

The walls are a flat brown, all the trim is painted beige, there is not a ceiling light, and all the windows are covered with plantation shutters. The plan is to change all four of those items.

Construction in Progress

The contractor has taken down the plantation shutters.  We had a new AC vent added (you can see it is the second progress picture) in order to increase air circulation in the space.  It gets really warm in the room during the day due to all the sunlight.

The walls are being repaired.  They had been badly patched by the previous owners.  I am not a patching expert and couldn’t have done any better.  The walls will look as good as new when the contractor and his team are done with it!  Here are a few shots of the progress:

The Design Plan

The walls are going to be painted a light gray in a shade called Subtle Touch.  It is a color I discovered a few years ago and absolutely love.  I have been slowly putting it all over our house. In addition, the doors and trim will be painted a beautiful, bright white.  It is going to really open up the space.

The plantation shutters are going to be taken down and replaced with airy, white sheer curtains embellished with matching white pom poms. It isn’t a room that requires privacy as it overlooks our backyard.  Therefore, I am not concerned with only adding sheer curtains.

I want to add to the floor this beautiful rug (pictured above) from Ballard Designs.  I will continue to use my existing desk. It looks just like the Williams Sonoma desk pictured above, but with a white base. In addition, I would like to add cute desk accessories and a pink throw blanket for the cold winter mornings.

The space isn’t anything to look at right now.  In about two weeks, the walls and trim should be complete, the lights installed, and all the decorative accessories should be in place. I am so incredibly excited about how pretty this space is going to be.  It is going to make working from home that much more wonderful.
