Life Organization

Reduce the chaos in your life by creating a daily routine

Successful people follow a daily routine. Routines are great from an organizational perspective, time management, and stress management. Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it?

My daily routine keeps my stress level down, my home clean, and my body fed.  Today I am sharing my day to day routine in order to provide inspiration for you to create your own routine.

Why is a routine important?

  • A routine creates a schedule for the day and allows you to get more done.
  • A routine will allow you to complete personal tasks in the most efficient manner, therefore saving time.
  • A routine creates consistency so important things are not forgotten.
  • A routine makes some actions automatic, saving mental energy on decision making.

What my routine isn’t

  • Rigid. There is room for flexibility.
  • For everyone.  This is my routine.  You may read my routine and think, “I could never do that.”  Don’t panic.  You can create a routine that is best for you.

Set goals before creating your routine

Before you define your routine, know your goals and limitations.  Time is big factor for me.  There are items I have to coordinate in order for the timing to work. Also, I have days where I plan to do certain things I do not do on other days.  For example, I don’t go to the gym every single day.  I only plan to go twice during the week, alternating those days with other things that are important to me.

My goals

  • Getting to bed at a decent hour.
  • Have time for an evening beauty routine.
  • Cooking with my husband and eating at home on week nights.
  • Taking breakfast and lunch with me to work everyday.
  • Have time for the gym 2 nights a week and 2 times during the weekend.
  • Finish laundry during the week so I don’t have to do it on the weekend.
  • Have time to work on the blog.

How I created my routine

First, I set my goals.  Putting them on paper allowed me to see the list of items that are the most important to me.  Next, I had to figure out how I was going to achieve each of them.  This required me to look at the amount of time that I have to complete everyone on my schedule plus find them time to achieve my goals.

Outline your time and take your routine for a test drive

Take your routine for a test drive to see how it works for you and your life.  Make changes as necessary.

I didn’t find the best schedule for myself the first time around. I have found that I have set expectations for myself that were not realistic.  Instead of getting upset with myself and feel down, re-evaluated what I was trying to achieve.

My routine

6:30 am to 7:00 am – Walk dogs, put laundry that washed over night in the dryer.

7:00 am to 7:45 am – Get ready for work.

7:45 am to 8:00 am – fold and put away laundry.

8:00 am to 5:30 pm – Work.

5:30 pm to 6:30 pm – Leave work.

6:30 pm to 7:30 pm – work out Monday and Wednesday.  Work on the blog Tuesday and Thursday. Iron clothes on Fridays.

7:30 pm to 8:30 pm – Cook dinner with my husband, pack my breakfast and lunch for the following day, clean up the kitchen, and set a delayed wash for a load of laundry.

8:30 pm to 9:30 pm – Shower and complete my evening beauty routine.

9:30 pm to 10:30 pm – Relax with my husband.

10:30 pm to 6:30 am – Sleep.
