Decorate Entryway

Our home entry way update

entry-way-remodel-3The husband and I have been in our house for about a year and half.  We have not finished nearly as many renovation projects as we would have liked during this time frame.  I blame our busy schedules and lack of enthusiasm.  It is a bit difficult to talk yourself into giving up more than a few weekends in a row to paint, sand, and paint some more.

We have pulled together a few spaces in the house.  This includes:

Today I would like to show you around our entry way.

It is the first room that we see as soon as we come into the house.  I wanted it to be both bright and cheery.  However, the space is small.  It was important to pick the right items to convey both texture and balance; it is also important to pick pieces that would help us from creating clutter.

When we moved in, the space was brown.  Not beige, but brown.  The entire house was brown!  We have been slowly transforming each room from dull and dingy to bright and lively.

This was what the room looked like when we first moved in.entry-way-2

Here is another view of the original entry way.  You even get a glimpse of our not so wonderful kitchen.

We have done a few things to this space.  First, we turned the laundry room door, the door to the left of the table.  It originally opened to the right.  This was not conducive to how we use the space so we had the door rotated.  The laundry room door now opens to the left, away from the table, instead of into it.

We also painted the walls a light gray.  This is a lovely color by Behr called Subtle Touch. I found this color several years ago when we were renovating our Florida home.  I absolutely fell in love with this color and have been looking forward to using it again.

The table I found online at Overstock.com for $115.  It was just the right length to fit between the laundry room door and the door to the half bath.  I just love the shape of the legs and the body of the table.  It creates an artistic detail for the small space.

The rug I purchased from Pier1.com for $150.  It is made of sturdy jute, which makes it ideal for high traffic areas such as an entry way. (FYI…we have had it in the entry way for nearly a year and it still looks as good as it did the day it was delivered.  I definitely recommend this rug!)

The hammered metal tray I picked up from Target. The tray cost about $15.  It is technically a serving tray, but I bought it specifically to use as a place to catch our keys when we come in the door.

The small faux greenery and sculptures came from HomeGoods.  I picked up the faux greenery for $5, the small sculpture on clearance for $14, and the large sculpture on clearance for $15.

  1. […]  This is sad because it is located just off of the entry way when you walk in the front door. (You can see photos of my entry way here.)  If we have guests over, that is the bathroom they use.  To put it nicely, the space does not go […]
